The Project
The Rumaila oil field — one of the world’s largest — relies on a large-scale produced water re-injection (PWRI) system to maintain reservoir pressure and sustain production. The Phase 1 project was awarded to China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering (CPP) in 2022 under an EPC contract, covering more than 50 km of high-pressure water injection pipelines in multiple diameters (16-inch, 18-inch and others), with Basra Energy Company Limited (BECL) as the client.
Phase 2 — Existing Facility Tie-Ins extends this system by physically connecting the newly built injection/re-injection pipelines to the field’s existing production facilities. The core challenge: complete the tie-in works without interrupting ongoing oil production, enabling the expanded re-injection capacity to be brought into service smoothly.
